I just happen to be located within what's considered to be part of the DC metro area, and was a "participant" in this record-setting "Blizzard of 2010." (We've got, oh, about 40+ inches of snow on the ground right now, give or take.) This being the case, and living out in the country with lots of critters who are also struggling to survive, feeling sympathy and concern for the birds, I set two containers of bird seed out on our deck. I was AMAZED at the instantaneous response!!!
Before I was even back inside the house, there were at least 10 birds on the table!! It was a very precious sight that added a bit of warmth to this very cold and grey day. Against a background of snow their color and variety were absolutely beautiful. They were gathering in nearby trees to await their turn at the table, and standing on the snow-covered deck railings to take advantage of any available space.
It was extremely obvious that they were all very hungry, and the hubby and I were both very thankful that we could help provide a little belly-full to these smallest of creatures. Our reward was being blessed with the opportunity to watch the parade throughout the day, until the light faded away.
The images were all taken through the atrium door of my family room, which wasn't the easiest of tasks since the elements were taking their toll on the clarity of the glass, but to me, it was well worth the effort, despite the obstacle.
